Christmas in Liverpool is always a magical occasion but this year’s festivities will shine on brighter than ever before.

Boasting brand new decorations, the city centre will be bedecked with its biggest Christmas lights display from Wednesday, 9 November to guide you on your shopping way.
 
Liverpool’s Christmas Market is set to be its best yet and with late night shopping from Thursday, 10 November the city centre will be able to cater for your every wish.
 
And prepare to be a-mazed with our Curious Garden and other ‘Alice in Winter Wonderland’ themed events as the city centre celebrates Tate Liverpool’s Alice exhibition - with a twist!
 
So, go on, treat yourself. Visit Liverpool. It’s Christmas.

Christmas GrottoRapid, 4th floor: Now open until 24 December.

Get into the Christmas spirit with Liverpool’s Number One grotto. Formerly of Lewis’s, this famous grotto is a must for families seeking a magical memento from Santa.

Admission is £5 including entry, visit to Santa and gift. Entry only is 60p. Photographs start from £5. Printed while you wait.

   Christmas Lights Switch: Now on until 6 January 2012 in the City Centre

Liverpool will be lit up like never before this Christmas. City Central BID, Liverpool One, City Council and Commercial District BID have all come together for the first time to deliver the city’s biggest festive light display. The lights, made by people with varying disabilities, will extend into new parts of the city centre with new effects such as 3D chandeliers and 3D baubles. Traditional entertainment from live reindeers in Queen Square to the Salvation Army band at the Church Street tree will run every Thursday in December.
     
   Christmas in MetquarterEvery Thurs - 24 November – 22 December

Join us this Christmas at Metquarter and find your favourite designer names hidden in our Alice inspired Winter Wonderland.

There will be a wide range of FREE activities to entertain the whole family - from gingerbread decorating and crafts every Thursday (from the 1st December) to a week of events highlighting our exclusive brands with personal styling and tailoring advice among a variety of other activities.    Christmas MarketLord Street, Church Street, Whitechapel: Now on until 22 December

Travel the world this Christmas on just one street! Featuring more than 50 of the finest craft and food stalls from across five continents, Liverpool’s new and improved Christmas Market is offering treats from as far as China and South America. Plus new for 2011 will be a traditional German glühwein bar in the shadow of the main Christmas tree on Church Street. Also look out for the Moroccan mini-village near Metquarter.
     
 

The Art Lids WonderlandClayton Square: Every Thurs, Fri, Sat – 24 November – 17 December

Clayton Square – upper level. FREE workshops.

Art students from Liverpool John Moores University are to create a magical Christmas craft workshop in the heart of the city centre. The shop, inspired by the Alice in wonderland exhibition at Tate Liverpool, will offer handy arts and craft tips to those looking to put that special touch into their Christmas preparations. Bespoke gifts will also be on sale.

The Curious GardenWilliamson Square: Now open until 5 January (closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day)

Step inside a world of wonder and delight where things are not quite what they seem…

A Liverpool first, the Curious Garden offers children of all ages and abilities the chance to enter a different world. Here they can experience a sensory play garden, dancing fountains, spin in larger than life teacups and tumble down in the crazy cottage. There will be a few more hidden surprises with Alice and friends in there too plus there’ll be a daily special prize to be won

Admission: £4.99 for children. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Two adults go free with each paying child. Extra adults pay £1 each. This attraction is suitable for children under the age of 12. Open during shop opening hours.
